How searches are counted

What uses a shout, what doesn’t, and how to make every search count.

In NameShouts, searches are called shouts. You get 50 free shouts every month, and your count resets at the start of each billing month.

What Counts as a Shout

• A successful search counts. If NameShouts has no result, it doesn’t
• Each result card is one shout — searching with All languages can return several cards
• Searching the same name again counts again. Replaying audio you’ve already opened doesn’t
• Adding a name to a list counts as a search
• Searches count the same way in the web app, the Chrome extension, and the API

Here’s an Example

Say “Sam” is available in 16 languages. If you search with All languages selected, that one search uses 16 shouts. Choose a language first when you know it — you’ll get a tighter result and use fewer shouts.

Tip: Use the full name when you have it. A more specific search usually returns fewer cards.
